Frequently Asked Questions

I am having fatigue. I think I may have had COVID as some of my friends had it but my test was negative. Do I still count as having post-acute COVID syndrome or long COVID?

Answer: Unfortunately many of the tests for COVID are not that reliable and still miss cases. It is highly likely that you do have post-acute COVID syndrome.

I did not require hospitalization for COVID. However my fatigue symptoms are very debilitating.

Answer: You do not have to be hospitalized with COVID in order to suffer from severe post viral fatigue. In fact, most patients who have post-acute COVID syndrome were not hospitalized.

What causes post-acute COVID syndrome?

Answer: The etiology of post-acute COVID syndrome has not been determined. It is thought to represent an immune mediated phenomenon. Research is being conducted into this area.

Is post-acute COVID syndrome the same entity as chronic fatigue syndrome?

The medical community is currently hesitant to further classify post-acute COVID syndrome given the unknown pathophysiology. It does however share many of features of chronic fatigue syndrome and dysautonomia/postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. The approach to treatment is similar.
